I am the Captain of a team who work together in a stimulated environment towards winning on the race track and having a great time getting there. I enjoy being involved in the learning and progression of a top line sailing programme with enthusiasm and passion. I was born in Adelaide, South Australia and competed in my first Sydney- Hobart yacht race in 1993 and have never looked back from the ocean life since. My interests are yacht racing, surfing, kite surfing, snowboarding, diving, spending time with my family and travel.
STEWART MURRAY, Chief Engineer
Currently on a well earned vacation after a winter of redefining the operating systems of Shamrock V. Stewart’s goal is to further his extensive career in yachting aboard modern vessels that can utilize his skills to the yachts best advantage. Born in Sydney, Australia where he sailed skiffs in the harbor and ocean racing to gain his seagoing experience. His hobbies include snowboarding, surfing and kitesurfing.
DANIEL AITCHISON, First Mate
I started sailing in 1994 on my O.E. in Israel. It was a great experience but it was not until I did the Vasco de Gamma yacht race, (Durban- East London) that I got hooked. Big seas and strong winds changed my life. In the America’s cup jubilee 2001, I saw the J’s racing and made it my goal to work on one. I started working with Shamrock in New Zealand 2003, then joined as the Mate in April 2007 and am still enjoying the challenge.
JOHANN VISSER, Engineer / Deck
I am originally from Cape Town, South Africa, where I learned to love, appreciate and enjoy the ocean. After my university studies, I realized I wanted to sail as much as I could possibly afford whilst pursuing my career as engineer. I have been involved in all aspects of the sailing industry, from construction to the finished product, to gain as much understanding in all the fields of my dream career. I was actively racing in smaller keelboat circuits on the west coast of America before joining Shamrock V and the team.
GRAHAM CAPELL, Bosun
From sailing Optimist dinghies at 6 years old to sailing and being the care father of a world famous piece of marine history, it is an honor to sail on Shamrock V. I love working with our high energy positive team, with the respect for a J class legend. My interests are sailing, kite surfing, snowboarding and all sports.
KRISTYN GILLS, Deck/ Rigger
I was born in Tasmania, Australia. When I was 16, I was given the choice to go to university or sail boats for a living. I went for the sailing and have not regretted my decision since. I have worked and captained various race boats in my career. When the opportunity to work on Shamrock V came up, I jumped at the chance and am still enjoying my decision. I am an outgoing person who enjoys all outdoor sports especially sailing and snowboarding and try to do both as often as possible.
